A love letter. (from me)
I've been thinking about how easy it is to recognize ourselves when we're somewhere beautiful.
Travel does that to me.
I notice more. I look up. I wander. I eat slowly. I take in the light glinting off of a building or sit calmy somewhere much longer than I normally would.
There is something about being away that makes it easier to be completely there.
And then we come home.
There are groceries to buy and laundry to wash. Someone needs something. The inbox awaits. Bursting at the seams. Dinner needs to be figured out.
Again.
You see, I think this is might just be where the real practice begins.
Can I be as present for this life as I was for the beautiful one I was just admiring?
Can I notice when I'm rushing through an ordinary Tuesday because I've decided there is nothing here worth noticing, or worse, because I am so distracted I can't even see it?
Can I honor the moment I leave myself and come back before the end of an entire day?
I don't want a life that I need to escape in order to feel alive in it.
I want to be here for all of it.
The beautiful cafe in a city I've never been to, yes.
But also my own kitchen.
The extraordinary conversation and the familiar one.
The awe and the mundane.
Maybe that's what returning has come to mean for me.
Being more fully where I already am.
Letting the beauty and the brutal coexist because... when do they not?
And perhaps that's why Sacred Rebellion has taken the shape it has.
It isn't twelve weeks away from real life.
It's twelve weeks of learning to come back into it.
We begin September 17.
I'll tell you more soon.
Love,
Natalie
